Meet Tanya Hasbrouck

Candidate for Chancery Court Judge, Seat 2

My name is Tanya Hasbrouck and I ask for your support as I campaign to be the next Chancery Court judge, seat 2, for Jackson, George and Greene Counties.  I am an attorney who has been practicing law and serving the citizens of Jackson County and the gulf coast for more than 25 years.  My home is in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where I live with my son, who is beginning his third year of college, my three dogs, Jake, Scamper and Oreo, and my cat, Haley.  I have lived, worked, and worshipped in Jackson County since 1991.  My son and I are members of Eastlawn United Methodist Church.  My office is located in Pascagoula just steps from the court house, and my practice includes family law (divorce, custody, adoptions, guardianships, conservatorships, youth court matters, wills, estates, and guardian ad litem work).  I also serve as the board attorney for West Jackson County Utility District and as the public defender for the cities of Pascagoula and Gautier.  Before I opened my own practice, I served as an Assistant District Attorney for Jackson, George, and Greene Counties for 12 years under both Dale Harkey and Anthony N. Lawrence, III (Tony Lawrence), and I began my legal career as a law clerk for Justice Michael Sullivan (dec.) at the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Before becoming an attorney, I was a registered nurse and worked primarily pediatrics.  My favorite time in nursing was at Denver Children’s Hospital in its Cardiac Burn Step-Down Unit.  During law school at Ole Miss, I worked at the Baptist Memorial Hospital (formerly Oxford Lafayette Medical Center)  in Oxford, Mississippi and spent one summer during law school with a traveling nurse corp working on a pediatric ward in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

When I learned that Judge Bradley would be retiring, I knew that Jackson, George and Greene counties were losing a special person and an expert in the law, and that the citizens would need a person who believes in people and the law and who could and would dedicate themself to maintain the quality of the chancery courts.  Protecting rights and guaranteeing impartiality is a full-time job, and it was clear that our community needed someone with a lifetime of experience and an unwavering commitment to justice to run for this office.  I have dedicated my life to serving others—from helping children recover from critical injuries, to defending citizens’ rights in the courtroom, to prosecuting violent criminals and protecting communities in Jackson, George, and Greene Counties.  I believe that I am the only candidate with the experience that the citizens of Jackson, George, and Greene Counties deserve in a Chancery Court Judge.

It is honor and privilege to run for this office and to serve the citizens of Jackson, George, and Greene Counties.  Together, we can keep the Chancery Court honest and fair and strive to keep children and families safe and protected.  Thank you for your time, please come out and vote on November 6, 2018 (and November 27 for any runoff), and welcome to this campaign’s website.
